Private Music Lessons
Seoul Foreign School offers private music lessons on campus during after school on weekdays and Saturdays. Students of all ages and experience levels can register for One-on-One music lessons in piano, violin, cello, guitar, flute and many other instruments with one of our qualified SWEP Music instructors. Families who are interested in SWEP Music private lessons should first read the SWEP Music Policy and Procedures from the link below.
SWEP Music Lesson Payment Information
SWEP Music private lessons for beginner students at the elementary level must be charged at the rate set by the school. These fixed prices are: 74,000 won for 50 minutes / 37,000 won for 25 minutes lesson. For advanced students in the middle and high school, music instructors are able to set their own rates. Instructors are only able to carry out the lessons when parents agree to the rates.

Cello
Ms. Emma Ahn
Ms. Emma Ahn studied in Seoul Art High School in Korea for a year and went to New York. She studied in Juilliard Pre‐College and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mannes College of Music. She had master classes with numerous musicians in the U.S, Germany, France and Italy. She has been teaching many students since 2005, regardless of ages and capacities. For the Beginners, she gives an idea of how to play an instrument, Basic Techniques, understanding of an instrument For the advanced students she provides advanced technique, analyzing music score, musical understanding. Currently, she is a principal and tutti member of many Orchestras and a member of Humanitas Ensemble. She also teaches students who want to take ABRSM exam.

Mr. Kyung-jin Cho
Cellist Kyungjin Cho is an active soloist, educator, and chamber musician. He graduated from Busan high School of Arts then he went to New York to study cello and entered Manhattan School of Music(BM), studied cello with Prof. Marion Feldman and ensemble with Prof. Wolfram Kossel, Daniel Avshalomov, and Jon Klibonoff in NYC. He graduated from MSM and had a Solo Recital at Mikowsky hall in New York.
Mr. Cho had begun playing piano at the age of 6, and moving onto violin and cello at the age of 7 and 8. Having made his concerto debut at age 16.
After he graduated from Manhattan School of Music, He came back to Korea to take a military service for twenty‐one months, served at the Blue House. Mr.Cho strives constantly to expand his artistic boundaries by working with musicians. Mr. Cho collaborates with medical school students. He is invited to teach the Dalian korean youth orchestra(students of Dalian international school) in Dalian. He is now a member of Ensemble Klazum and LIKE ensemble, and instructor of Goseong High School of Music, GSE ensemble and Seocho young orchestra. He is available at SFS on Wednesdays & Thursdays. Double Bass
Mr. Doo Woong Chung
Mr. Doo Woong Chung began music career at the age of 16. He studied intensively at Han Yang and Seoul National University. And He won a full scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) for his undergraduate. Currently he moved back to Seoul after his graduate his Master degree and while pursuing Doctoral degree with Full Scholarship in Music Performance at the University of Texas, Austin. He studied under Rinat Ibragimov, the principal of London Symphony Orchestra. He was invited as a guest member of London symphony also studied with DaXun Zhang in U.S. He was a guest member of Texas Austin Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, and Bucheon Philharmonic. Also he was a formal member of Abilene Texas Philharmonic. And meanwhile he worked for Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra as a tutti player for two years.
Currently he is freelance at mutural orchestra as a principal, and lecturer at Seoul National University, Seoul art high school and Kyewon art high school.

Flute
Ms. Seung Yeon Lee
Seung Yeon Lee received her B.A. from Sangmyung University and her M.A. from Sofia National Music Academy in Bulgaria. She has been teaching flute at SFS since 2005.
She was an Adjunct Professor at Daegu Art University, Joongbu University, and Joongbu University Graduate School. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor at Hanyoung University Conservatory and Sangmyung University Future Education Center. And she has been teaching flute at National Tax Administration and Korea Development Bank as a part of the donation of talent since 2006. Ms. Lee is the conductor and music director of the "Ohsunhyang flute Ensemble" and also a member of the" La Fontana Flute Ensemble".
Her course description is for beginners, students study how to perform faithfully to the basics, while intermediate classes focus on techniques that are useful for school bands and orchestras. The advanced class helps students to play correctly and freely through analysis and interpretation of sheets from the times such as Baroque, Classical, and Romantic. Gayageum
Ms. Sunju Park
Ms. Sun-ju Park is a distinguished musician with a rich background in Gugak (Korean traditional music). Holding a Bachelor’s Degree from Seoul National University and having studied Art and Culture at Linkoping University in Sweden, she is a versatile artist who co-founded the world music band 'IN-LAND' and contributed to the Swedish folk music band 'Strängar och Rör'. Ms. Park has showcased her talent in over 50 concerts and released two albums, earning accolades such as the 'Best Music Award' from the 2019 PADAF in Korea.
As an accomplished soloist, Ms. Park received an Art-in-residency from USF Verftet in Norway. Currently serving as the music director, composer, and gayageummer at FFWANG and FreezyBone, she has also taught gayageum and Samul-nori at the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil and Han-sori cultural center. Since 2022, Ms. Park has been sharing her expertise as a SWEP gayageum instructor, extending her passion for teaching to individuals of all ages and musical backgrounds interested in exploring Korean traditional music.

Horn
Ms. Woolee Chae
Ms. Chae studied Korean National University of Arts and received her Master’s degree from the University of Hamburg Musikhochschule, Germany. She taught Gymnasium students and performed as guest principal horn with many orchestras and solo recital Laeishalle-Musikhalle in Germany. She is also the first prize winner of the KEPCO Art Pool Center Competition in Korea.
Currently, she is a principal hornist at HKI(Heritage of Korean Independence) Orchestra, The Art One Orchestra and a member of ensemble 'Sooom'. She also teaches students who want to take ABRSM exam.

Oboe
Ms. Mirae Sohn
Ms. Mirae Sohn graduated Seoul Art High School, Seoul National University with honors(cum laude). Ms. Sohn moved to U.S.A. and received her Master's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with full scholarship. She received her oboe performance doctoral degree at the University of Southern California and became a member of National Music Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda. After returning to Korea, she did many performances in Korea and abroad, including her solo debut at the Sejong Art Center, the Shinjuku Art center, and the Carnegie hall. She is currently a principal oboist at The Art One Orchestra and a member of ensemble 'The Piri' , ‘Ensemble Jung’ and teaches at Seoul Art High School and Dewon Girl's High School. She is available at SFS on Tuesdays to Fridays.

Piano
Ms. Hannah Sung-ah Kim
Ms. Kim studied in London for ten years receiving both MMus and BMus degrees from the Royal Academy of Music and her early musical education was at the Purcell Specialist’s Music School and Royal Junior College of Music. She studied with Kathryn Stott and Aaron Shorr and appeared in various solo and chamber music concerts including recital at the Bolivar Hall in London organized by the Venezuelan Embassy and piano duo performance at the Purcell Room in collaboration with the London Sinfonietta. She received the Nancy Dickinson Award from the Royal Academy and also received LRAM (Licentiate Royal Academy of Music) piano teaching qualification during her undergraduate studies. She has been teaching piano performance, music theory, sight‐reading and aural to students from various nationalities from complete beginners to high level players, incorporating ABRSM curriculum, tutor books for beginners, and various music selections from popular classical albums. She enjoys working with young musicians and her students have made good achievements including distinctions in ABRSM exams. Ms. Kim is available for lessons on Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays. Ms. Jihyun Shyn
Jihyun Shyn graduated from Ewha Women’s University, majoring in classical piano. She has been teaching piano to SFS students of all ages since 2003. She also played accompaniment for Elementary, Middle, and High School Music concerts for 9 years. Mrs. Shyn teaches students at various levels, from beginner to advanced, and caters to the individual needs of each student. For lesson books, she uses Alfred’s Basic Piano Course Books and holds piano recitals for her students every semester at school. Mrs. Shyn has two kids, both of whom graduated from SFS. Ms. Julie Lee
Ms. Julie Lee studied in the US; she received a Bachelor of Music (BM) degree from Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester) and a Master of Music (MM) degree from the University of Southern California (USC) in piano performance. She earned a teaching license and a master's in music education from Washington, DC.
She has worked at SFS as a music substitute, BS/ES/MS music teacher, BS senior choir accompanist, and SWEP piano instructor for many years. She loves working with students and welcomes anyone who wants to enjoy music. She also prepares those who wish to take the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exams. She incorporates music theory, aural, sight-reading, fun movie songs, popular songs, and classical repertoire in music lessons. All ages and levels are welcome!

Violin
Ms. Laura Park
Ms. Park is an SFS music faculty, teaching Andante Orchestra (ES Chamber Orchestra), Middle Years String Orchestra and High School Orchestra. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Eastman School of Music and continued her Master of Music Education from Yonsei University.
Ms. Park began playing piano at the age of 4 and moving on to the violin at the age of 6. Once she got into Yewon School she moved to the Cezch Republic and has attended Ostrava Conservatory to continue her music studies. During her high school years, she lived in Georgia, LaGrange in the States, and she was a member of LaGrange Symphony Orchestra and concertmistress for LaGrange Youth Symphony Orchestra. Then she moved to India and went to the American International School of Chennai (AISC) and continued her music studies. She was an IB music student, concertmistress for music festivals that were held from school, and went for AMIS during her high school years.
Ms. Park studied violin at Eastman School of Music and during the time she was there, she taught students in public school and community music schools. After she returned to Korea, she played in orchestras, chamber music, and taught privately while earning her Master's Degree in Music Education at Yonsei University. She has experience teaching different ages and tries to find the potential musicality from students and teaches the joy of music. She also teaches ABRSM including theory. Ms. Ji Sun Lee
Ji Sun Lee received her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) and Master of Music degree from Michigan State University, where she was awarded several scholarships, including the Josef & Elfriede Verderber Scholarship and a full scholarship from Michigan State University for her graduate studies. She completed Dr. Shinichi Suzuki teacher training at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
As a performer, Ji Sun Lee has given solo recitals and chamber concerts in Korea and abroad since 1998. Her solo debut in Korea was at the Kumho Art Hall in Seoul. She has performed at prominent venues such as the Seoul Arts Center, Sejong Cultural Center, Young-san Art Hall, Seongnam Arts Center, and Daejeon Cultural Arts Center. Additionally, she was invited as a guest artist to Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia to give a concert and conduct masterclass sessions.
As a scholar, she has contributed articles and critiques to journals such as The Strad, Korea and Musical Art. From 2006 to 2015, she translated the ‘Basics’ and ‘Master Class’ series for The Strad, Korea.
An active chamber musician, Ji Sun Lee has taught chamber music classes at various universities and arts schools, played in numerous orchestras and chamber groups in the U.S. and Korea, and served as a concertmaster. She has led and been the concertmaster of the Miral Chamber Orchestra, chamber ensemble Nouvelle, and Musica Viva.
As an educator, she has taught violin, chamber music, and academic music courses at Charles Stewart Mott College, the Community Music School at Michigan State University, the Flint Institute of Music, Seoul University, Baekseok University, Kangnam University, Sunhwa Arts School, and Kaywon Arts High School. She was appointed as a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2010. From 2012 to 2014, she served as the Middle School Orchestra Director at SFS.
Ji Sun Lee holds a certification in Art and Culture Education Instructor from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Korea. In 2015, she formed the group 'musiCog' to perform interdisciplinary arts and develop music educational programs. Her program was selected for the ‘Seoul Performance Industry Revitalization Project’ sponsored by the Seoul city and the Korea Music Association. The project, ‘Tong(통, 通) Project 1 - Music and Architecture,’ was performed at the JCC Art Center in 2020.

Voice
Ms. Nakyung Min
Ms. Min graduated from Yewon Arts School, and studied in Seoul Art High School in Korea for a year and went to New York. She studied in Juilliard Pre‐College and received a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance in Manhattan School of Music. Then, she continued her Master’s degree in Music Education from Columbia University. Ms.Min has performed in many concerts, gala concerts, festivals and operas. She has appeared in numerous opera including Faust, La Traviata, Hansel and Gretel, Nina and Amahl and the Night Vistors. Also, she won several competitions including Florence Boughton Competition for Young Artists, Sungjung Cultural Foundation Voice Competition and Korea Voice Competition.
After she returned to Korea, she was lecturer at Seoul National University of Education, a voice instructor at Kyewon Arts High School and music faculty at VSGIS and SEED International School. Currently, she is a music director at Areumdeuri Diverse Culture Children’s Choir and music faculty at British Education Korea.
